Welcome to Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula...
The Playa Coyote area is the most undiscovered and undeveloped beach area on the pacific side of the Nicoya Peninsula. Most of the land around
the areas is owned by just a few people who are determined to never let the area turn into another Tamarindo or Jaco. The maritime zone, or concession
areas have very few commercial zonings, to keep development away from the beaches. Many of Costa Rica's richest families, including those of several
ex-presidents, own beach homes here.

The Playa Coyote area is composed of four main beaches. Starting from the north: Playa Bejuco has the famous upscale Punta Islita hotel, and the
region's only airport, which is long enough to land private jets. Farther south is Playa San Miguel, which is separated from Playa Coyote by a river
estuary. This estuary is extensive and great for kayaking. Farther south is Playa Caletas, with virtually no development on the beach. South of this
is the Rio Bongo area and then Manzanillo, Malpais, and Santa Teresa.
Currently, the area is reached in rainy season only from the north. It's 3-hr drive, or less, to the international airport in Liberia. In dry season,
the Rio Bongo to the south can be crossed to reach the upscale areas of Malpais and Montezuma. The coastal road will eventually be paved, linking the
Playa Coyote area with both the north and south much more quickly.
We see the Playa Coyote area as becoming one of the nicest in Costa Rica, forever unspoiled by developing much more sustainably. Real Estate prices in
the area are still relatively inexpensive because of its currently fairly remote.
